  • Description: <jats:p>In his continuing efforts to promote optimum child growth and development, the peditrician often finds social action to be one of his most effective tools. The "foster grandparent" program properly falls in this category. The purpose of this communication is to describe another such social action program that the pediatrician can initiate and help develop. We have called this the "foster grandchild program."</jats:p> <jats:p>Serving as a consultant to the foster grandparent program at Dixon State School (for the inception and development of which the Illinois State Department of Mental Health and others deserve great praise), one of us (R.S.M.) participated in the successful creation of artificial families.</jats:p>
