Description:
Abstract If Agrobacterium tumefaciens is treated with 8-methoxypsoralen (8-MP) and irradiated with long wave UV the subsequent growth of the bacteria is stopped whereas respiration continues for at least 7 hours. Treatment with 8-MP or UV alone has no effect. Also the wound healing processes in Kalanchoe leaves are inhibited by simultaneous applications of 8-MP and UV. Tumor induction on Kalanchoe leaves is reduced by simultaneous treatment with 8-MP and UV of a. the inducing bacteria before infection; b. the wounded leaves before infec tion : c. the infected leaves at least up to 24 hours after infection. These results are discussed in relation to a participation of bacterial or host DNA in the infec tion process
