  • Description: <jats:p>This article discusses the confluence of three institutional programs (Faculty of Medicine of the National University, San Juan de Dios Hospital and the Presentation Dominican’s Charity Sisters Congregation) as a fundamental aspect for the beginning of one of the firsts and most important nursing schools in Colombia, in the context of social assistance policies led by the Sate of Colombia in the 1920’s. The different changes that the first academic nursing program had until the consolidation of the profession are also discussed.</jats:p>
