• Description:
This study was planned and carried out to examine the relationship between home accident and adaptation difficulties of the elderly. The population of the study consisted of elderly people aged 65years and older residing. In the research, systematic sampling method was used and a total of 506 elderly people. In the study, “Assessment Scale of Adaptation Difficulty for the Elderly” which was developed by Şişman & Kutlu (2016) was used. In the study, it was determined that 15.2% of the elderly experienced an accident in the last year and 62.3% of them were falling accidents. When the descriptive statistics for the subscales of Assessment Scale of Adaptation Difficulty for the Elderly were examined, adaptation difficulty is high in all four subscales. The relationship between experiencing an accident in the last year by the elderly and all of the subscales was found significant (p<0.05). All of the subscale scores for those who have experienced an accident in the last year are higher than those who didn’t experience an accident. This situation shows that elderlies who have experienced a home accident in the last year have more difficulty in adaptation.
