<jats:p>Textbooks are an important learning tool for using in classroom and an important resource for achieving curriculum goals, the foundation of “teaching” for teachers and “learning" for learners. This article examines the main Russian language textbooks in Chinese higher education institutions from 1949 to 1966 to provide an example of the compilation, use and adaptation of Russian language teaching materials in the new era.</jats:p>
