Abstract. - In the early 1970's it was necessary for the S.N.C.F. (National Society of French Railway) to reduce losses, and it was suggested that little used and uneconomic railway lines be closed, with concentration of the traffic on the road. At the same times the regional power in communication was increasing. This paper shows the transport policy of the Midi-Pyrénées region : development in public transport (especially by railway), and cooperation with the S.N.C.F.
