<jats:p>The first part of this study shows, on the basis of the identification of the central figurative scene of a geometric mosaic floor, that one can find an astonishing complexity even in that type of geometric structure. The central figure, interpreted only superficially until now, turns out to be a well-planned composition, whose depth can only be perceived in relation with the whole network of all the mosaics (see part II).</jats:p>
