  • Description:
The "Veil Taking" among Converts to Islam : A Final Transition Ritual This paper intends to study the taking of the hijâb, the legal Islamic clothe that covers up the whole body with the exception of face and hands, among converts to Islam, according to transition rituals such as codified by ethnology. After the separation from a world totally exempt from Islamic reference, which is not without consequence because of its somehow brutal dimension, the incorporation in the adoptive group corresponds to the individual re-birth within the community to which one identifies clearly. This process carried out in midst of Western European secularised societies puts into question the latter about the deliquescence of sacred meaning.
