  • Description:
Provisional analysis of population trends in south western France (Aquitaine and Midi-Pyrénées). South western regions of France contributed 12,6 % of the nation's population a century ago, but only 9,1 % nowadays. The results of the 1975 Census demonstrate that there is an increase of population distribution contrasts within these regions. The births and deaths balance is slowly decreasing. The same for the migrations' balance. Urbanization is presently proceeding at a slower pace than in France. Finaly, as the population is still increasing in the larger agglomerations, it becomes clear that the down town districts are presently less populated than they used to be ; but, on the other hand, suburbian areas experimented a sharp population growth ; this evolution began sooner in Bordeaux than in Toulouse.
