  • Description: <jats:p>In the nineteenth century reformers of Public Education wished that pedagogy would be considered as "rational". Though a consensus could be obtained about this qualification, most of the time, it became controversial : elements in opposition with these new educational trends were immediately quoted. The semantic approach to the word "rational" is uneasy to conduct, between the concept of discernment contained in the word "reasoned" and the qualification of "rationalist" evoquing a great ideological debate.</jats:p>
