An original research including a plurality of disciplinary perspectives and led through a long period of time is being carried out by the team THEODILE on how Freinet''s pedagogy is applied in a popular suburbs. The comparative treatment of the data gathered during clinical interviews with pupils and teachers reveals that the group is where Freinet''s pedagogy takes place in that school. However the issue of the effects of such a pedagogy being related to psychoanalysis, one would expect the effects on the individual to be enhanced. The hy pothesis comes up against a heuristic contradiction : this is indeed the nature of the relationship individual/ collective that is being questioned here.
