Description:
Organisations that simultaneously cooperate and compete are engaged in what has become known as 'coopetition'. The agri-food sector is one of the oldest and most established supply chains. It contains numerous examples of coopetition and this paper uses six cases drawn from the sector to investigate the concept and operation of coopetition. Observation of the cases leads to a number of lessons that may be of value to management practitioners interested in adopting coopetative strategies as well as to individuals responsible for developing policy within the agri-food supply chain, and academic researchers undertaking further inquiry into the concept of coopetition.
