  • Description: <jats:title>Abstract</jats:title><jats:p>In this paper, we consider the following critical Kirchhoff type equation:</jats:p><jats:p><jats:inline-graphic xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" mime-subtype="gif" xlink:type="simple" xlink:href="S0008439500023870_inline1" /></jats:p><jats:p>By using variational methods that are constrained to the Nehari manifold, we prove that the above equation has a ground state solution for the case when 3 &lt; <jats:italic>q</jats:italic> &lt; 5. The relation between the number of maxima of <jats:italic>Q</jats:italic> and the number of positive solutions for the problem is also investigated.</jats:p>
