  • Description:
Though writers might be more prone than others to depression, we also have the escape hatch of the phantasy world we can create: ‘every single phantasy,’ Freud wrote, ‘is the fulfilment of a wish, a correction of unsatisfying reality’ (Freud 1959a: 146).So one effective way of dealing with depression is to focus on the making of our creative works, and through this to promulgate other stories about the community, society and value that will allow these works to work for us.
