<p>The three cultivars of Cucumber ' Beit Alpha mosaic resistant ', ' Beit Alpha F₁ hybrid mosaic resistant ', and ' CMV resistant 268 ' were resistant to the predominant Cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) strain in the Beqa'a plain of Lebanon. Under severe natural CMV infection they were free of CMV symptoms, grew vigorously and gave high yields of excellent quality fruit. Both yield and fruit quality compared very favorably with those of susceptible Cucumber cultivars in the absence of CMV. We highly recommend these resistant (CMV-R) Cucumber cultivars for cultivation under conditions similar to those in the Beqa'a plain. The three CMV-R cultivars also had a high degree of tolerance to a hitherto unidentified virus, which caused a mosaic similar to CMV on the leaves but not on the fruits. Le tre cultivars di Cetriolo ' Beit Alpha mosaico-resistente ', ' Beit Alpha F₁ ibrido mosaico resistente ' e ' CMV resistente 268 ' si sono dimostrate resistenti al ceppo predominante di virus del mosaico del Cetriolo (CMV) nella pianura di Beqa'a nel Libano. In presenza di violente infezioni naturali di CMV, esse non hanno mostrato sintomi di mosaico, sono cresciute vigorosamente e hanno dato un'elevata produzione di frutti di excellente qualità. La produzione e Ia qualità dei cetrioli sono apparse comparativamente migliori di quelle delle cultivars suscettibili in assenza di infezioni di CMV. Per quês ti motivi si consiglia l'uso delle cultivars resistenti sopra menzionate (CMV-R) nelle zone ove sussistono condizioni simili a quelle delia pianura di Beqa'a. Le tre cultivars CMV-R hanno anche mostrato un alto grado di tolleranza ad un virus non ancora identificato, che causa sulle foglie ma non sui frutti un mosaico simile a quello indotto da CMV. Les trois cultiyars de Concombre ' Beit Alpha mosaïque-résistante ', ' Beit Alpha F₁ hybride mosaïque-résistante ' et ' CMV résistante 268 ', ont montré leur résistance à la souche CMV, prédominante dans la plaine de Beqa'a, au Liban. En présence de graves infection naturelles de CMV, ces cultivars n'ont pas montré les symptômes de l'infection ils se sont développées vigoureusement et ont donné un bon rendement de qualité excellente. En l absence d'infection de CMV, le Droduit et la qualité des Concombres étaient comparativement meilleurs que ceux des cultivars susceptibles. On recommende la culture de ces cultivars de Concombre CMVR dans des zones ayant des conditions semblables à celles de la plaine de Beqa'a. Les trois cultivars CMV-R ont montré aussi un haut degré de tolérance à un virus pas encore identifié qui cause, sur les feuilles mais pas sur les fruits, une mosaïque semblable à celle induite par CMV.</p>
