<p>Specific criticism is directed at the database on superstore retailing in Britain being assembled by Davies and Sparks (1989). Their critique of alternative data sets is commented upon and critical flaws within the Davies and Sparks data assemblage are isolated. While the importance of the overall topic is stressed many of the claims and assertions of Davies and Sparks are considered as misplaced and tangential to overall progress. With a clearer isolation of objectives, the recasting of data presentations and tighter reporting the database would be much improved to gain in importance and become a valued source on a crucial growth area of superstore development.</p>
