The effect of spatial variability of soil hydraulic properties on spatial differences in soil water regime was evaluated for six different sites of two floodplain areas in Slovakia and Hungary using the SWAP simulation model. Valuable differences between the soil water content values were found at some locations. Our results indicate that characterisation of the soil water regime at sub-regional scale operating with spatially mean values of soil hydraulic properties can lead to avoiding the effects of extreme water regime situations.
