Description:
Isozymes are the multiple molecular forms of an enzyme synthesized by members of a single species. Probably most enzymes exist in two or more isozymic forms; they may have either a genetic or an epigenetic origin. The study of isozymes has given a new dimension to enzymology and has revealed previously unrecognized metabolic subtleties that enable organisms to fulfill highly specialized metabolic requirements.
