Description:

The effect of lead, nickel, and pentachlorophenol on the respiration rate of Tubifex tuifec Muller and Limnodrilus hoffmeisteri Clap. was determined. Knopps Solution was used as a medium in order to reduce environmental variables. pH was altered as was the concentration of each test material. Results show an increase in respiration due to pentachlorophenol, a reduced rate due to lead, and a variable effect due to nickel. The effect of pH on the results on all three test materials was well demonstrated.
