  • Description: Field measurements of shoreline set-up are presented from a wide range of beach types along the New South Wales coast, Australia. The measurements were obtained under a range of incident wave conditions (0.53 m < Horms < 4.3 m). For all beach types, the shoreline set-up is found to be about 38% of the offshore root mean square wave height (Bs ≈ 0.38 Horms). This value is considerably higher than those obtained from extrapolation of outer surf zone measurements because the mean water surface steepens considerably through the swash zone compared to the outer surf zone.
