Description:
<p>A study of xylematic conductive elements in 69 species from a transitional zone between tropical dry and wet forest in Caparo Forest Reserve (Barinas, Venezuela) is presented and compared with previous reports in Venezuela. Histological slides and macerated tissue were prepared according to xylematic microtechnique standards. Vessel features, vulnerability and mesomorphy indexes, effective area of conductivity and relative hydraulic conductivity were calculated and classified. According to the values of such indexes species showed mesomorphic character, and only Stemmadenia grandiflora, Clavija ornata and Hybanthus prunifolius presented a vulnerability index of xeromorphic type. A wide variation in vessel diameter, vessel frecuency and intervessels pits size was observed but always tending to efficiency in conducting system.</p>
