Description:
An examination of the marble reliefs in all parts of the façade of S. Zeno, Verona reveals that its traditional dating and interpretation, which assumed two separate periods of activity, dated approximately 1138 and 1200, must be questioned: the façade as a whole proves to be a construction of around 1200 of the Brioloto workshop, which, in addition to producing its own decoration, incorporated into its design late works of the school of Niccolò from three dismantled projects dating 1138 and after, one of which can be reconstructed from surviving sculpture.
