Description:

The ascospores of H. uvarum were studied with the light and the electron microscope. All of the 9 strains examined sporulated abundantly on Difco malt extract agar. The spores possessed a ledge, often indistinct in young cultures, but clearly visible in older ones. The spores are saturn-to helmet-shaped with a convex base, sometimes with a slightly warty appearance. These characteristics were compared with those of H. valbyensis and taxonomic histories discussed.
