Description:
Foods of wintering black-bellied whistling-ducks (Dendrocygna autumnalis) were studied in December 1979 and December and January 1980-81 in Sinaloa, northwestern Mexico. About 75% by weight of the foods were cereal grains, predominantly rice in 1979 and corn in 1980-81. Junglerice barnyardgrass (Echinochloa colonum) caryopses were the most important moist-soil plant food. Animal foods comprised <3% of the diet.
