Deux fours de potiers ainsi que de nombreux rebuts de cuisson ont été mis au jour à Bayeux. L ’un des deux, de forme circulaire et à sole inclinée, a livré dans son remplissage de nombreux éléments de construction permettant de présenter une reconstitution. La production homogène est constituée de pots et cruches en céramique grise. L’étude conjointe des fours et de la céramique conduit à proposer une datation dans la première moitié du Xe siècle. C’est jusqu’à présent l’unique découverte de fours de cette période en Basse-Normandie.
Ein karolingischer Töpferofen in Bayeux (Calvados). Zwei Töpferöfen sowie ein ungemein reiches Ausschussbrenngut wurden in Bayeux geborgen. In einem der beiden, von rundlicher Form und mit schräger Grundplatte, wurden in seiner Füllung zahlreiche Bauteile vorgefunden, die es ermöglichten, eine Rekonstruktion anzufertigen. Die homogene Produktion besteht aus Töpfen und Krügen von grauer Ware. Die parallele Untersuchung der Brennöfen und der Keramik lässt erkennen, dass die Datierung in das X. Jahrhundert anzusetzen ist. Bislang handelt es sich um die einzige Entdeckung von Brennöfen aus dieser Zeit in der Unteren Normandie.
A Carolingian kiln at Bayeux (Calvados). Two pottery kilns, along with numerous wasters have been brought to light at Bayeux. Numerous structural elements have been found in the fill of one of these kilns, evidence enabling us to propose a restitution of the feature which was of circular shape, with a sloped floor. The production is homogenous, comprising jars and spouted pitchers of a grey ware. The joint study of the kiln and the production, leads us to propose a date in the first half of the 10th century. This is, at present, the only kiln site known for this period in Lower Normandy.
