Abstract. - The island's population is undergoing a complete change. The research conducted during the summer of 1987 assesses the island's attraction, defining the way in which people integrate within a territory, offering at the same time a true picture of a society in relation to its contacts with the outside world. The new ushantine «diaspora» is a complex human group subject to continental as well as to insular influences. Ushant is both magnetic and repellent in the midst of a demographic dynamic. This comprehensive approach towards analyzing the island's «diaspora» outlines a système of studying humain migration as well as defining the insular phenomenon in its contemporary form.
Résumé. - La population d'Ouessant est en totale mutation. L'enquête réalisée durant l'été 1987 permet de mesurer l'attraction insulaire, de définir les formes d'intégration à un territoire et de cerner la nouvelle «diaspora » ouessantine : groupe humain composite à double appartenance, insulaire et continentale. L'île est aujourd'hui un centre vieilli au cœur d'une dynamique démographique qui concerne un espace plus large. Cette approche globale de la diaspora insulaire aboutit à l'ébauche d'une méthode de saisie d'une population dans ses mouvements et à la définition du phénomène insulaire dans son expression contemporaine.
