TWO TREPHINED SKULLS FROM THE MEGALITHIC TOMB, AT CHAUSSÉE-TIRANCOURT (SOMME) Summary : The paleopathological studies carried on the anthropological material from the megalithic tomb at Chaussée-Tirancourt (Somme), have ascertained the existence of two cases of trephination which show some peculiarities. A first skull shows a trephination notable for its dimensions, its localisation and its filling by a reossification process, attesting the long survival of the subject, and consequently the hability of the neolithic practitioner. A second skull shows an important left cranio-facial traumatism and a trephination, which are most probably in connection with each other. As the trephination occures after the serious cranio-facial injury, it could have been executed with a therapeutic concern.
Résumé. — Les études paléopathologiques des restes humains de la sépulture mégalithique de la Chaussée-Tirancourt (Somme), ont permis de mettre en évidence deux cas de trépanation aux caractères particuliers. Un premier crâne montre une trépanation remarquable par ses dimensions, sa localisation, et son processus de comblement par réossification, témoin de la survie du sujet, mais aussi de l'habileté du praticien néolithique. Un deuxième crâne porte les séquelles d'un grave traumatisme cranio-facial gauche et d'une trépanation. Ces deux lésions, auxquelles l'individu a d'ailleurs survécu, semblent étroitement liées. La trépanation, postérieure au traumatisme, aurait pu être exécutée à des fins thérapeutiques.
