Edifice disparu, le Châtelet peut être appréhendé par des témoignages littéraires et iconographiques, des plans anciens et l'archéologie. Avec toute la prudence qui s'impose, il est possible de proposer l'hypothèse suivante pour l'évolution du site : reprise de l'enceinte urbaine (tourelles, porte entre deux tours pleines) dans la seconde moitié du XIIe s., élévation d'un édifice quadrangulaire à tours d'angle après la révolte de 1241-1242, édifice doté d'une enceinte du côté de la ville vers le milieu du s.. Le Châtelet était un bâtiment exceptionnel, élevé pour contrôler la ville et matérialiser la puissance capétienne.
The Châtelet is today destroyed, but its possible to know it through literature, iconography, old plans and archaeology. Prudently, an hypothesis can be proposed to bring forward the evolution of the site : repair of the town enceinte (turrets, gate) in the second part of the XIIth century, construction of a quadrangular building with four corner towers after the revolt of 1241-1242, building equiped with an enceinte in the middle of the century. The Châtelet was an exceptionnel edifice, built to supervise the city and to show the capetien power.
