Vertrekkend vanuit een vergelijking tussen zekere resultaten van het exploratief kwalitatief onderzoek "het beeld van de strafrechtsbedeling in Quebec" en deze van het onderzoek van dezelfde aard, uitgevoerd in Frankrijk door het SEPC, tonen de auteurs het nut en de specifieke bijdrage aan van dit soort onderzoek binnen de sociologie van de voorstellingen. Het laat inderdaad toe de organisatie van de voorstellingen, eigen aan iedere kultuur, te identifie eren, hetgeen de gewone overname of zelfs de aanpassing van een gestandardiseerd en a-priori uitgewerkt instrument niet toelaat te verwezenlijken. De auteurs trekken er besluiten uit wat betreft het opzetten van transkultureel onderzoek op dit domein.
Starting off with a comparison between certain findings of a qualitative — exploratory research concerning the image of penal justice in Quebec and those arrived at by a similar effort in France (undertaken by the SEPC), the authors demonstrate the utility and the specific contribution of such research regarding sociology of representations. It enables to identify the organisation of representations peculiar to each culture; a result that transposing or even adapting a standardized instrument construed a-priory would not achieve. The authors thus draw conclusions with regard to the application of trans-cultural research in this field.
A partir d'une comparaison entre certains résultats de la recherche exploratoire qualitative "L'image de la justice pénale au Québec" et ceux de la recherche du même type menée en France par le SEPC, les auteurs montrent l'utilité et l'apport spécifique, en sociologie des représentations, de ce type de recherche. Il permet, en effet, d'identifier l'organisation des représentations propre à chaque culture, ce que la transposition ou même l'adaptation d'un instrument standardisé et élaboré a priori ne permet pas de réaliser. Les auteurs en tirent les conséquences quant à la mise en oeuvre de recherches transculturelles en la matière.
