Migrations and periurban fringes: the example of Nord -Pas-de-Calais Region. Peripheral urbanisation and rurbanisation are ambiguous notions. In the densely urbanised Nord - Pas-de-Calais region, the identification of the rural fringes with respect to the urbanised areas is often difficult. Many rural municipalities have a positive migratory balance, but the explanation of their recent spreading is not always easy. The study of the 1975-1982 definitive migrations and of the 1982 commuting shows the great complexity of the urban fringes.
