Urban dynamics, socio-spatial segregration in the Lesser Antilles : The case of Pointe-à-Pitre. Pointe-à-Pitre, as the main city of Guadeloupe, was subject to rapid growth in the 1950's, combined with an intensification of the process of social segregation. The first urban policies that intended to resolve these problems were drastic but their success was limited. Nowadays, the local authorities are setting up more flexible integration polities as they take into account the global identity of the city as well as what its inhabitants are longing for in term of environmental, social and economic wishes.
Pointe-à-Pitre, principale agglomération de l’archipel guadeloupéen, a connu après les années 1950 une forte croissance qui s’est accompagnée d’une accentuation du phénomène de ségrégation socio-spatiale. Les premières politiques urbaines menées pour la résolution des dysfonctionnements qu’il avait suscités ont été drastiques et n’ont eu qu’un succès limité. Aujourd’hui, les pouvoirs publics mettent en place des politiques d’intégration plus souples, qui tiennent compte de l’identité globale de la ville et des aspirations environnementales, sociales et économiques de ses occupants.
