Le chantier aura des influences sur l'environnement, l'emploi, les industries. Plus tard, le trafic transmanche et l'économie portuaire seront affectés. Indirectement la mise en place d'infrastructures autoroutières ou ferroviaires (Train à Grande Vitesse) entraînera une réorganisation des relations intra- et interrégionales, ce qui implique des stratégies régionales ou locales de développement ou d'adaptation. Mais de nombreuses incertitudes subsistent encore quant au calendrier de réalisation des projets et à la nature, à l'ampleur de leurs conséquences sur le développement régional.
Decided in 1986, the completion of a rail tunnel under the Channel is expected for 1993. It will have many effects on the development and planning of the north european regions, and more particularly on the North of France. The construction site will have an effect on the environment, employment and on the industry. Later, both the cross channel traffic and the port economy will also be affected. Indirectly the motorway and rail infrastructures will lead to a reorganisation of relations within and between regions. This implies an adaptation or development and local strategies. However there are still many questions conceming the completion dates of the project and the type and amplitude of the consequences on regional development.
