  • Description: Elizabeth W. B. Fentress, Tribe and Faction : the Case of the Gaetuli, p. 325-334. An examination of the circumstances of the Marian enfranchisement and settlement of the Gaetuli suggests that it is hardly likely that this took place in the period immediately following the Jugurthine war, and that it may be dated more reasonably to the last year of Marius' life. Further, the Gaetuli may be seen to have been consistently allied to the democratic faction in Rome. This relationship is discussed in the light of its African context; the formation of the tribes referred to as Gaetuli, and the struggle between these and the Numidian kingdom.
