Description:
ABSTRACT. - The main characteristic landforms of Western Kunlun are presented. These mountains form the N.W. border of the Tibetan Plateau. This subtropical (36°N) and hypercontinental area offers a good example of a very dry high mountain. Three stages can be distinguished : —on the top, a glaciated stage where large glaciers extend on a large surface (80 %); —an extensive periglacial stage with an important permafrost; — a cold desert environment in which poor snow and water transits occur. This type of high mountain is notable for the activity of aeolian dynamics.
