Description:
ß-sepiolite was combined with pulp using special additives to make hand¬ made paper. Two kinds of ZM-clays containing ß-sepiolite, occurring in the Sivirihisar region of Central Anatolia, Turkey, were used for this paper making : a white one of low purity and a brown one of high purity. As ß-sepiolite content increased, the ammonia-adsorbing power of the paper increased. The apparent adsorption isotherm shows a sharp increase of water vapor adsorption at relative humidities above 90%. Machine-made paper containing about 60% white ZM-clay, or about 39% ß-sepiolite, can be called deodorizing paper, because it can adsorb almost any unpleasant odorants in our environment such as ammonia, isovaleric acid, methylmercaptan, nitrogen dioxide, ozone, pyridine and trime thy lamine.
