The history of Tehran has shown a strong interdépendance between its socio-spatial and socio-cultural evolution and the socio-political events which have transformed Iranian State and society. Under the Pahlavis, the capital grew as a dual city with a sharp socio-cultural divide between the rich North and the poor South. The Islamic Revolution has overthrown this cut through a rather paradoxical double trend : on the one hand the overwhelming middle-class favours a homogenization pattern whereas on the other hand provincialization and individualization processes produce a new urban fragmentation.
L'histoire de Téhéran a montré une interdépendance forte entre son évolution socio-spatiale et socio¬ culturelle et les événements socio-politiques qui ont secoué la société et l'Etat iraniens. Sous les Pahlavi, la capitale a accentué son caractère de ville duale juxtaposant un Nord riche et un Sud populaire séparés par une barrière socio-culturelle étanche. La Révolution islamique a mis fin à cette coupure par un double mouvement associant de façon paradoxale une homogénéisation en faveur des classes moyennes et une provincialisation de la capitale aboutissant à une nouvelle fragmentation.
