Founded in 1576, the University of Helmstedt was a brilliant center of late German humanism, a period that has been largely neglected in academic research. For the first time, this volume presents the lyrical works of Heinrich Meibom the Elder (1555-1625), who held the Helmstedt professorship of poetry for over 40 years. If offers a representative selection of his work, including texts in all the formats of neo-Latin poetry that he employed (including parodies of Horace, Virgilian centos, occasional poems, and spiritual poetry).
