  • Beschreibung: Extending the existing theories of social movement - especially Klandermans' and Oegema's (1987) social movement participation model - with social identity theory and identity theory, the authors propose that identification and identity salience play an important role in eliciting social movement participation. Based on this assumption, an integrative conceptual framework will be introduced that includes findings from sociology, social psychology, organizational research, marketing, and nonprofit management to elaborate on identification and social movement participation will be introduced. The framework will be discussed using a current example of a Swiss social movement organization which has addressed a petition against DJ BoBo's vampire song with the argument that the pop song offends religious sensibilities
