  • Beschreibung: The Umabanda development in Uruguay has had some own characteristics product of the secular tradition of the Uruguayan State. Since the beginning of its presence in Uruguay, this religion had difficulties in achieving social acceptance and legitimacy, at least for the next four decades to their introduction in Uruguay. The restoration of democracy in the country in 1985 meant new possibilities of expression and the questioning of the current model of public space until then. Religions attempted to have greater presence in the public space and as a result, tensions emerged between faiths with the state and each other. This struggle has followed a complex road map in the last thirty years. To try to understand, it discusses some of its keys, the strategies used, and results in the XXI century.
