Abstract: Advancing the transformation to Sustainable Chemistry - ISC3 report May 2017- December 2020: The International Sustainable Chemistry Collaborative Centre (ISC3) promotes and develops sustainable chemistry solutions worldwide. The international centre thus addresses major challenges faced by sectors designing, manufacturing and/or using chemicals and its products. To help finding proper solutions it promotes sustainability, circular economy and a new system thinking. With a sustainable and circular approach, these sectors can make significant contributions to achieving the United Nation’s (UN's) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) and the German Environment Agency (UBA) commissioned the Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) with the foundation of the ISC3 in 2017. Further partners are DECHEMA (Gesellschaft für Chemische Technik und Biotechnologie e.V.) as Innovation Hub and the Leuphana University Lüneburg as Research & Education Hub. ISC3 is a globally operating institution and multi-stakeholder platform. It drives five main activity fields: cooperation, innovation, education, research and information. This report describes the ISC3’s activities from its foundation in May 2017 in Bonn until December 2020. During this period, the centre initiated key formats for stakeholder participation with the Advisory Board, Scientific Board and Stakeholder Forum, launched the world's first master's degree program in “Sustainable Chemistry” at Leuphana University Lüneburg, and established its Global Start-up Service, which was joined by more than 100 start-ups from around the world by December 2020.
Kurzbeschreibung: Förderung der Transformation zu einer Nachhaltigen Chemie - ISC3 Abschlussbericht Mai 2017 - Dezember 2020: Das International Sustainable Chemistry Collaborative Centre (ISC3) fördert weltweit nachhaltige Lösungen in der Chemie. Das internationale Zentrum adressiert damit wesentliche Herausforderungen aller Sektoren, die Chemikalien und chemische Produkte konzipieren, herstellen und/oder einsetzen. Um geeignete Lösungen zu finden, stärkt es Nachhaltigkeit, Kreislaufwirtschaft und neues Systemdenken. Mit einem nachhaltigen und zirkulären Ansatz können diese Sektoren bedeutende Beiträge zur Erreichung der UN-Ziele für nachhaltige Entwicklung (Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs) leisten. Das Bundesministerium für Umwelt, Naturschutz und nukleare Sicherheit (BMU) und das Umweltbundesamt (UBA) haben 2017 die Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) mit dem Aufbau des ISC3 beauftragt. Weitere Partner sind die DECHEMA (Gesellschaft für Chemische Technik und Biotechnologie e.V.) als Innovation Hub sowie die Leuphana Universität Lüneburg als Research & Education Hub. Das ISC3 ist eine global agierende Institution und Multi-Stakeholder-Plattform. Es arbeitet in fünf zentralen Handlungsfeldern: Collaboration, Innovation, Education, Research und Information. Der hier vorliegende Bericht beschreibt die Tätigkeiten des ISC3 von der Gründung im Mai 2017 am Standort Bonn bis Dezember 2020. Im Berichtszeitraum initiierte das Zentrum mit dem Advisory Board, Scientific Board und Stakeholder-Forum zentrale Formate zur Stakeholder-Beteiligung, startete den weltweit ersten Masterstudiengang "Nachhaltige Chemie" an der Leuphana Universität Lüneburg und etablierte seinen Globalen Start-up Service, dem sich bis Dezember 2020 über 100 Start-ups aus aller Welt angeschlossen haben.
