  • Beschreibung: Pump-and-dumps represent planned systems to artificially inflate asset values, usually through the dissemination of positive, and often false statements surrounding the future expected value of a financial asset. After purchasing the assets and taking advantage of the momentum generated in the dissemination of the positive information, the investors then sell the asset to lock in profits, while other, less-informed investors are subjected to the forces of a fire-sale when market participants realise that the presented information was incorrect. Those responsible for pump-and-dump schemes are usually exerted to the full extent of the law. While pump-and-dumps have in the past surrounded attacks on micro-and low-capitalisation stocks, cryptocurrencies have presented an incredible opportunity for those who wish to participate in such schemes. Due to the opaque and often misleading information presented surrounding the future viability of several cryptocurrencies, they have become an excellent source of unsupported optimism
