  • Beschreibung: Nigeria has identified carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) as an important tool to support the country in achieving its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) target of at least 20% and up to 47% reduction (conditional on international support) in greenhouse gases compared to business as usual by 2030, as well as accelerate its energy transition. While deployment of CCUS underpins net zero emissions goals and can aid energy transitions, additional effort is required to advance the technologies, particularly in emerging markets and developing economies. Given the scale and urgency of energy transitions, including industrial decarbonisation, cooperation and collaboration is critical in order to maximise CCUS development globally, including in emerging markets and developing economies. This paper describes the collaboration between the Federal Government of Nigeria, the International Energy Agency (IEA), and the World Bank Group (WBG) to understand the potential for CCUS in Nigeria and facilitate its development. The work demonstrates that a country-led program with integrated support from both the IEA, an intergovernmental agency, and the WBG, an international development partner, allows each partner to leverage their respective strengths to optimise outcomes for the host country. While still in the early stages of implementation, the collaboration between the Federal Government of Nigeria, the WBG, and the IEA can serve as a model for CCUS development in emerging markets and develping economies
