Maids, household appliances, and household time are key inputs to domestic production. This study uses data from Great Britain and France to analyze simultaneously their demands. Particular emphasis is placed on estimating the effects of resource prices: the market price for purchased inputs and individual opportunity costs for household time. We conclude that higher opportunity costs increase the likelihood of having maid services and appliances. Women‟s time costs are also significantly related to household time use. Finally, maid service appears a closer substitute for household time on weekends than weekdays, suggesting smaller labor supply effects than anticipated by earlier literature
