  • Beschreibung: Although the economic success of Amazon Prime has been widely reported in the mass media, few empirical studies have carefully quantified the economic value, consumer welfare impacts, or public policy implications of the subscription program. This study contributes to this economic literature by estimating the effect of the Amazon Prime status of beverage products on their sales ranks. Specifically, using an instrumental variables approach and data from Amazon’s platforms in the United States and Canada, we show that Amazon Prime improves the sales performance of ground coffee and black tea by 59% and 77% in the United States and by 97% and 96% in Canada, respectively. These findings suggest that the economic success of Amazon Prime reported in the mass media is observed at the product level on Amazon’s websites
