  • Beschreibung: The low quality of human capital leads to the “big but not strong” producer services, which hinders the realization of high-quality economic development in China. Using the China Family Panel Studies (CFPS) and RESSET enterprise data for the period 2000-2019, this paper measures the human capital quality of each province in China. It empirically investigates how human capital quality affects the competitiveness of producer services. We find that human capital quality in China presents significant regional differences, generally showing a decreasing trend from East to West. Furthermore, human capital quality positively affects the competitiveness of producer services, particularly in the eastern region and after the establishment of the Strategy to Make China a Talent-Strong Country (2007), and the promoting effect on the development scale and industrial structure of producer services is more pronounced. Our empirical results also indicate that FDI enhances the impact of human capital quality and the competitiveness of producer services, especially in promoting the producer service’s industrial structure and innovation strength. This paper clarifies the causal relationship between human capital quality and producer services. It provides a reference basis and policy enlightenment for China to move to the stage of high-quality development gradually
