Growing economic inequality worldwide has emerged as a serious concern, and thus, the role of organizations in creating and maintaining economic inequalities has been receiving increasing scholarly attention. Most organizational practices and strategic actions that are reasoned to either contribute to or reflect existing economic inequality can be linked to the nature of corporate governance in those organizations. Increasing evidence from research and practice highlights that the influence of firm corporate governance should extend beyond the organizational boundaries to influence issues related to economic inequality. To aid in this endeavor, we discuss the inequality implications of key theoretical frameworks employed to examine corporate governance. We further discuss the strategies for corporate governance to address economic inequality and develop a future research agenda in this emerging area
