This paper studies the impact of typhoon strikes on the fiscal implications using county-level data in China. In China, the local government stands at the first line and is the main power to allocate the resources to prevent and react to regular disaster shocks, experiencing fiscal pressure. A panel vector autoregressive (PVAR) model is employed to reach the major finding that the expenditures related to emergency relief immediately exhibit a significant expansion effect. However, non-emergency relief-related spending may be reduced in the concurrent reallocation but exhibits a growth pattern in the long run due to disaster prevention
