  • Beschreibung: Empathy is thoroughly considering other’s emotions before making any decisions (D. Goleman, 2011). Many planning and design attempts are less successful because they fail to understand, and incorporate the concerns of those for whom the planning is done. If attention is not paid, planning can be a tool to favor rich over poor and exclude a certain class of people (Osborne, 2013). The exclusion of certain classes of people often happens when planners, architects, and politicians are less empathic for the needs of people. On many occasions, we fail to empathize, undermine other’s emotions, and make decisions. We often see what we are looking for while staying blind to what is really in front of us (Eggers & O'Leary, 2009). By applying the principles of empathy, this paper examines how effective Le Corbusier was as a planning and architecture team leader in Chandigarh city. This paper makes an argument that more empathic planners are likely to produce collaborative, inclusive and futuristic planning outcomes than otherwise
