The aim of this paper is to consider the role of legislative oversight of the cryptocurrency domain and it observes that there has been a growing legislative interest in understanding the socioeconomic role of cryptocurrencies. It further observes that the US Congress in light of recent debacles in the cryptocurrency space has exhibited a growing exasperation with the space as a whole. The paper thus argues that although cryptocurrency regulation is important it is by no means easy and legislators must face the challenge of protecting society while promoting innovation head-on
