  • Beschreibung: This article reviews why and how the United States should change who owns its stock market. Because stocks return more than other assets, compound interest concentrates wealth in the hands of the rich, White, and foreign investors who own almost all of America’s equities. In contrast, lack of stock ownership sustains financial hardship and structural racism for the bottom half of the population, and also worsens their health through socioeconomic effects on medical outcomes. Giving an index fund of the U.S. market to every child born in America (i.e., baby stocks) would be a more effective and democratic remedy for these inequities than baby bonds, basic income, tax credits, public banking, low-interest loans, or even cash reparations for slavery
